What the Darakaraka is
In Jaimini astrology, the Darakaraka is the planet that describes your spouse. “Dara” means spouse, and “karaka” means the one who signifies it.
It is not fixed in advance. Your planets are ranked by how far each has travelled through its sign, and the one with the lowest degree becomes the Darakaraka. So it differs from chart to chart.
How it is worked out
We take the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, and read each one’s degree within its sign, whichever sign it sits in. The highest becomes the Atmakaraka, the planet of the self. The lowest becomes the Darakaraka.
Some astrologers add Rahu to make eight karakas. We follow the seven-planet scheme, which leaves out Rahu and Ketu. Degrees are compared in full, so even a few arcminutes decide.
What it can tell you, and what it cannot
Traditionally, the Darakaraka points to the nature of your future partner: what they value, how they show care and how they tend to love. It is one strong layer of the chart, not the whole picture.
The tradition reads it with the 7th house and its lord, the Navamsa and the Upapada. Where these agree, the picture is clear. Where they differ, each one shows a different side of the same person.
Darakaraka questions
What is Darakaraka in astrology?
In Jaimini astrology, the Darakaraka is the planet with the lowest degree within its sign among the seven planets from the Sun to Saturn. Traditionally, it describes the spouse: their nature, their values and the way they tend to love.
How do I find my Darakaraka?
Enter your date, time and place of birth above, and say whose chart it is. We work out the chart and rank the seven planets by degree within the sign. The lowest is your Darakaraka, and the table shows all seven.
Why do you ask whose chart it is?
Only for the wording. A woman’s chart reads “your future husband” and a man’s “your future wife”. The Darakaraka itself is worked out the same way for everyone.
Is Rahu counted?
Some traditions use an eight-karaka scheme that includes Rahu. We use the seven-planet scheme, from the Sun to Saturn, which leaves out Rahu and Ketu.
Do I need my exact birth time?
As close as you can. The Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so a different time can change which planet has the lowest degree, most of all when two planets are close.
Does the Darakaraka show when I will marry?
No. It describes the partner, not the timing. Timing comes from your dasha periods and the movement of Jupiter and Saturn over your 7th house, which Marriage Prediction: Who & When reads.
Do you save my birth details?
No. The calculator works out your chart, shows the result and keeps nothing. Your details are not saved and are never sent to analytics or ad platforms.
