Kundli matching for NRIs and anyone born abroad

If you were born outside India, enter your real birth city and the local time on your birth certificate. Do not convert it to IST. A good tool applies that city’s own time zone and daylight saving rules for your birth date.

Kundli matching for NRIs: what changes

The astrology of kundli matching is the same wherever you were born. The 36 gunas, the Manglik check and the house matching all follow the same classical rules. What changes is the step before any of that: turning your birth details into an accurate chart.

A chart depends on the exact moment of birth in universal time and on the exact place. For someone born in Delhi, that moment is easy to work out. For someone born in Toronto, London or Sydney, it depends on the local time zone and on whether daylight saving was in force that day. Get it wrong and the rising sign, the houses and sometimes the Moon’s birth star can shift.

Enter the birth place, not where you live now

Your chart is cast for where you were born. If you were born in Leicester and now live in Bengaluru, enter Leicester. If you were born in Jaipur and now live in New Jersey, enter Jaipur.

On KundliScore you start typing a city or town and pick it from the list. If your exact town is not listed, choose the nearest larger town. The list gives us the coordinates and the time zone for that place, so you never have to look them up yourself.

Use the local birth time, with no IST conversion

Enter the time exactly as it appears on the birth certificate, in the local clock time of the place you were born. Do not convert it to Indian Standard Time, and do not adjust it for daylight saving yourself.

Families sometimes convert a foreign birth time to IST “to make it Indian” before taking it to an astrologer. If the time you have was converted that way, work out the original local time first. Entering a converted time against a foreign city would shift the chart by several hours.

Kundli matching across time zones and daylight saving

We convert your birth time using the time zone of your birth city as it applied on your birth date, including any daylight saving in force then. Two awkward cases come up when clocks change, and we tell you if either applies:

Birth times that fall on a clock change.
CaseWhat happenedWhat we do
Repeated hourClocks went back, so your birth time occurred twice that nightWe use the first occurrence and show you a note. If you know it was the second, the result may differ slightly.
Skipped hourClocks went forward, so your birth time never existed on the clockWe move it forward by the clock change and show you a note. Check the birth certificate if you can.

For most people born abroad, neither case applies and there is nothing to do beyond entering the right city and time. The same handling applies to births in India: the city’s own time rules for that date are used wherever you were born.

If your birth time is unknown or rough

The match form needs a birth time. Use the birth certificate time if you have it. If you only have a rough time, such as “early morning”, use your best estimate and keep in mind what it can and cannot affect.

  • The guna total depends on the Moon, which moves slowly enough that a rough time often gives the same result. It can change if the Moon crossed into a new nakshatra or sign that day.
  • The Lagna (rising sign) changes about every two hours, so the houses, house matching and the Manglik check from the Lagna depend most on an accurate time.
  • The Manglik checks from the Moon and from Venus depend much less on the exact time.

Matching charts across countries

Many NRI matches have one partner born in India and the other abroad, or both born in different countries. That is fine. Each chart is cast for its own birth place and its own local time, and only then are the two charts compared. The match does not care where either of you lives today.

The full report draws each birth chart in both North and South Indian style, so family members on either side can read it in the format they know. For more on what a careful match should check, see how to choose the best kundli matching tool and the 36 gunas explained.

Paying from outside India

The match score, the guna breakdown, the Manglik check and the verdict are free, wherever you are. If you visit from outside India, the price of the full report shows in US dollars, and payment is handled securely by Razorpay, which accepts international cards.

When families sit in different countries, the full report helps here too. It comes as a page with its own link and as a PDF, so parents in India and the couple abroad can read the same report at the same time.

Results arrive on the page and by email, or on WhatsApp with your country code. You can also check a single chart with the free Manglik dosha calculator using the same birth city and local time.

Questions people ask

Should I convert my foreign birth time to IST?

No. Enter the local time from the birth certificate and pick your birth city. We apply that city’s own time zone for your birth date.

Does KundliScore handle daylight saving time?

Yes. We use the birth city’s clock-change rules for that date. If your time fell in a repeated or skipped hour, we tell you what we assumed.

Which place do I enter if I was born abroad but live in India?

Enter the place you were born. The chart is always cast for the birth place, not where you live now.

Can I pay in US dollars?

Yes. From outside India the full report is priced in US dollars, and Razorpay accepts international cards.
